About Riviera Country Club

Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades is one of the most celebrated golf courses in the world, known simply as "The Riviera" among PGA Tour fans. Founded in 1926 and designed by George Thomas and William Bell, the course winds through a canyon between the Santa Monica Mountains and the Pacific Ocean, offering one of the most scenic and challenging layouts in championship golf.

The club has hosted more PGA Tour events than any other private club in California, anchored by the Genesis Invitational (formerly the Los Angeles Open and Nissan Open), which has been played at Riviera almost continuously since 1929. Its signature holes include the par-3 6th with its bunker island green, and the 10th, whose unique double fairway allows players to choose their risk/reward line off the tee. The course was rated as one of the top 10 courses in the United States by Golf Digest.

For LA28, Riviera will host all Olympic Golf — Men's and Women's individual stroke play, plus the Mixed Team event. The tournament format mirrors the one used at the Paris 2024 Olympics, and the intimate canyon setting gives golf fans a very different spectator experience from the stadium venues.

Getting here: Riviera CC is in a residential canyon — there is no Metro rail access nearby. Shuttle services from designated park-and-ride locations are expected for the Olympics. Sunset Blvd and Capri Drive access will likely be restricted on tournament days. Check LA28 official transportation updates closer to the Games and plan ahead for Round 4 days when crowds will be heaviest.

Transit & Parking

Shuttle services expected

Riviera CC sits in a residential canyon with limited road access. For the Genesis Invitational, fans park at remote lots and take shuttles in — a similar arrangement is expected for the Olympics. Watch for official LA28 transportation announcements as the Games approach.

Nearby base areas

Santa Monica (3 miles) and Brentwood (2 miles) are the closest areas with hotels and restaurants. Both are accessible from the course by rideshare. The Big Blue Bus Route 2 runs along Sunset Blvd, though dedicated Olympic shuttles are expected to be the primary option.

Golf spectating note: Golf is a walk-the-course experience — plan for several miles on foot over the session. Wear comfortable shoes, bring sunscreen, and hydrate. Round 4 (Men's and Women's Gold Medal days) will be the most crowded — arrive early to secure good walking positions on the back nine.
